Camas Meadows

Camas Meadows is home to plant species found nowhere else in the world. A lush garden surrounded by dry lands, it's a place of contrasts. The short hike here is particularly scenic in both spring and fall.

Magnet Ridge to Tronsen Ridge

Although old maps show it, the trail leading up Magnet Ridge near Blewett Pass is a discontinued trail. There’s no trailhead at the base, no signs along its length, and no Forest Service crews maintaining it. Seclusion is one reason to walk this ghost trail, beautiful groves of old ponderosa pines another.

Table Mountain Loop

In an area crowded by motors, finding a quiet and maintained mountain bike ride is a special, unexpected treat. Fortunately, this loop near Naneum Meadows provides just that, topped off with gorgeous views, technical riding, and, if you're lucky, exceptional wildlife watching.

Tronsen Cardinal Points Tour

Despite the early-winter, splendid-snow conditions that we enjoyed around Central Washington, it’s been six weeks since measurable snow fell on the peaks surrounding Blewett Pass. Now the north-facing ski lines off Diamond Head and Windy Knob are tired and scarred from over-use. No matter. The Blewett Pass environs offer a warehouse of other interesting ski tours that few bother to visit.

Nordic Skiing Bojangle Ridge

Forest Road 7230 is in the same neck of the woods as the Tronsen Road near Blewett Pass. However, this road system gets far less fanfare than the Tronsen Road while giving Nordic skiers and snowshoers another interesting place to explore.

Seeing Burned Trees from Winter Skis

While many of us spent New Years’ Day in recovery, Matt Dahlgreen and his wife were busy skiing near Blewett Pass. Matt is a retired USFS forest ecologist and silviculturist and is now a forester with The Nature Conservancy, so he couldn’t resist taking a seasoned ecologist’s eye to survey the effects from the 2012 Peavine Fire.
