WenatcheeOutdoors (WO) and OkanoganOudoors (OO) are non-profit efforts funded through grants, gifts, and sponsorships from organizations/individuals supporting our missions (getting more people outdoors more often for lifestyle, health, conservation, and economic benefits). Funding is lean so we magnify our capacity through volunteers who contribute a few hours a week (or several hours a month) tackling specific tasks. Most tasks are easily learned and we will train you, but consistency, reliability, and a willingness to do the task on an on-going basis is important. With your help we can improve our web resources and our local outdoor involvement.  If any of the tasks below are of interest, contact Sarah@wenatcheeoutdoors.org.

Tasks Needing Volunteers

  • Post the ‘Pictures of the Week’ for WO and/or OO (weekly).
  • Get outdoors often with the intent of taking Pictures of the Week (weekly or monthly).
  • Prepare the WO email newsletter every 3 to 4 weeks. There are two jobs here that can be done by one person or divided in two: 1) assemble the words and links for the newsletter 2) layout the finished content in our newsletter software and mail (monthly).
  • Post cool videos on the website (or forum) on an-ongoing basis. This would entail searching for interesting outdoor videos (inspirational, wow-inducing, instructional) and posting them (weekly).
  • Provide written, photographic, or video content on a weekly or monthly basis. You could pick a theme (e.g., getting out with kids, outdoor tips, gear review, technique) or simply free-range.
  • Edit stories and materials we send you (good for writers and those with strong grammar).
  • Help WO with the Everybody Out! Campaign was launched in summer of 2015. The campaign aims to get all locals outdoors on a hike, bike ride, paddle, ski, etc. at least once this year.
  • Translate more of our content to Spanish (we are starting a Spanish section).
  • Become a map guru who prepares the topo maps accompanying our posts (weekly).
  • Make GPS courses and GPS quizzes along the riverfront parks, in the Horan Natural Area, at Saddle Rock… (monthly or bi-monthly).
  • Wade through guidebooks and add the details pertaining to dogs to these posts (on-going).
  • Create natural history photo quizzes like our flower, bird, and animal track quizzes (bi-monthly).
  • Distribute brochures and rack cards around town every few months.
  • Represent WO at events (tables at farmers market, outdoor happenings, etc.).
  • Serve on the WO board of directors.
  • Help with fund raising efforts – grant writing, annual financial campaign.
  • Create a master list of regional media and local outdoor organization. Send links of our new posts to this list suggesting these orgs link their social media to our content.
